George Osborne extends council tax freeze

Money to extend a council tax freeze in England to 2012-13 has been unveiled by Chancellor George Osborne.The government cannot force councils to freeze bills but it is offering to give those that limit spending rises to 2.5% the money they need.

Barclays heads UK complaints list among banks

More complaints were made about Barclays than any other banking brand by UK customers in the first half of the year, figures have shown.The bank received 251,563 complaints, with 53% of closed cases upheld in customers’ favour, the Financial Services Authority (FSA) figures show.

Negative equity affects 827,000 households lenders warn

Mortgage lending from UK banks still subdued

Mortgage lending by the UK’s main banks is still very subdued claims the British Bankers’ Association (BBA).
The number of new mortgages approved by its members for house purchase rose by just 1,482 in March to 31,660.
