House prices fell by 1.3% in 2011 Halifax says

House prices across the UK fell by an average of 1.3% in 2011 mortgage lender Halifax says.A drop of 0.9% in December took the average house price down to £160,063.

Halifax said the property market had been surprisingly resilient in the face of falling incomes and a deteriorating economy.

Mortgage rationing becomes worse Bank of England warns

Home buyers will find it even harder to obtain a mortgage in the coming months the Bank of England warns.Its quarterly survey of lending activity shows that lenders are going to be even fussier about prospective customers.

Mortgage support change a danger warn lenders

Mortgage lenders have raised concerns about potential changes to the way support is given to those struggling to pay their mortgage.The government is reviewing the Support for Mortgage Interest Scheme, where homeowners who lose their jobs may receive financial help.

UK construction activity slows to near stagnation

Activity in the UK construction sector slowed to “near stagnation” in September, a closely-watched survey has suggested.The Markit/Cips construction purchasing managers’ index (PMI) fell to 50.1, just fractionally above the 50 “no-change” threshold that separates expansion from contraction.

UK house prices treading water says mortgage lender Nationwide

House prices continued to “tread water” in September – rising by 0.1% compared with the previous month the mortgage lender Nationwide said.This left the average price of a home 0.3% lower than a year earlier, at £166,256, the building society said.
